22 Month Update

It is such a joy watching Isaac learn and grow each month! The highlight of this month was a trip to the beach. It was Isaac's first time to see the ocean and sand, and he had a blast. There will be pictures and more about our vacation in a separate blog entry. Another big event for this month was a trip to a train station where Isaac saw and rode on Thomas the Train with his buddy, Austin. They had a such a good time. The front of the train looked like Thomas so Isaac loved it! We boarded the train, and took a 25 minute ride! The first half was really neat for the boys, but they started to get a little impatient near the end of the ride. It was a good experience for them.

Isaac's Daddy, Grandad, and Grampie are in the process of building him a swing set! They are working very hard and losing a lot of sweat during these hot summer days. Isaac cannot wait to get on it! It is looking great!

One of Isaac's biggest accomplishments this month was that he learned how to ride his tricycle. He is able to cruise through the house now, and does not need any assistance. He loves being able to ride around. He puts little toys in the compartment in the back of the tricycle, often times puts on his green rubber froggie boots, and take off! He does circles around the kitchen and ride up and down the hallway. Isaac also has an interest in anything with wheels and motors. He loves trucks, lawn mowers, tractors, airplanes/helicopters, cars, and strollers. Another big accomplishment this month has been the start of potty training. It is a work in progress! A book I read said to start around 22 months, so we recently started (around 22 1/2 months), and are making progress, thanks to the help of his two grandmothers. There are several pictures of Isaac with this month with only a T-shirt and underwear on....and now you know why.

Isaac is continuing to say more words each month. He calls a lot of people by name now, which is fun! He has also started saying "thank you" and "love you." Instead of saying "yes" he often says "sure" or "kay" (for okay). For instance, he may be eating and I will say "are you sure you are finished?" and he will reply, "sure." It is so funny. We are working on saying "yes" to those type of questions. He says "all done" a lot too, such as when he is finished eating. He will throw his hands up and say "Isaac all done." Another cute thing he does now is reach out for my hand as he says "hands" when he wants to show me something. Isaac has also learned to show his muscles. Although instead of flexing his biceps, he puts his arms straight out in front of him and grunts "grrrrr" when asked to show his muscles. It is so cute! Isaac's favorite question is "Mommy doe" (meaning where did Mommy go?). While at school he will ask his teachers, "Mommy doe?" or "Daddy Doe?," and they will tell him that we are at work, and then he is okay.

Isaac continues to be a fairly picky eater. He has not really been eating lunch very regularly. He eats a good breakfast and dinner, but will often times just skip lunch. His teachers at preschool are concerned, but he does not eat lunch well at home either. I think at school he refuses to eat lunch because he wants to pig out on the snacks later on in the day, like crackers or teddy grahams. (Smart boy!). He does love ice! He tries to sneak ice out of our ice maker whenever he can. I have even started giving him a little cup to hold his cube of ice to prevent him from dropping all the ice cubes on the floor and putting them back into his mouth (because they are "cold"). He has noticed the sound the ice maker makes, which is something he never really paid much attention to before. Foods Isaac currently likes most are: peanut butter ("peanut bubba"), crackers, goldfish, spaghetti ("ghetti")raisins, and chips with salsa. Anytime we drive by our usual Mexican restaurant, he will say "chips and salsa" without me even telling him we are near it. He also asks for "cwackers and peanut bubba" as soon as he realizes it is time to eat. He would literally eat peanut butter for every meal! At least PB has protein. Isaac has also discovered his own unique method of eating peanut butter, cream cheese, jelly, etc (whatever is on top of his toast or crackers). He digs his thumb down into the topping and just leaves the cracker/bread, then licks the peanut butter/cream cheese off his thumb. Isaac loves cupcakes too! Because he does not get many sweets, anytime he has any sweet (cookie, cake, fig newton) he calls it a "cupcake."

He is such a sweet little guy, but he has his moments where he tries to test his limits. He is in that phase where he is exploring his boundaries. One thing in particular he does, just because he knows it annoys me is stick his finger up his nose. He will put his finger in his nose and just laugh hysterically. Isaac is also still obsessed with having his tennis shoes on....in the middle of the summer. His shoes are the first things he mentions when he wakes up in the morning, "shoes on." I try to convince him on how much better and cooler it feels to where sandals, but he does not seem to care about my explanations. He just wants his tennis shoes on every waking hour. He also likes to yell for no apparent reason. He will yell out as loud as he can, and once again, laugh hysterically!

Isaac really enjoys going to the ball park while Mommy plays softball. As soon as I put on my red shirt and black shorts, whether we are going to the ball park or not, Isaac gets very excited and says "ball park." His favorite thing to do at the ball park is push his stroller around. No, he does not like watching Mommy or playing with friends there, he just wants to push his stroller the entire time. Isaac also enjoys coloring. He will climb into and stand in a drawer at our desk, and say "Isaac codor," meaning that he is ready to color or draw. He makes small little scribbles when he draws free-hand, and is learning to make circles. He holds his pen very well for his age, it seems. He is becoming more interested in his colors, and is able to name a few correctly, such as white and green. He knows the names of his colors, but often gets them mixed up. He has also started counting objects, up to number 3. He likes to count how many of each animal are on a page in his books. Another thing Isaac enjoys doing is having pony and piggy-back rides. Anytime my legs are crosses, he likes to jump on my leg and says "Mommy pony." He loves it!

Isaac is able to identify a lot of things in the environment. He loves looking out the car window for different animals, vehicles, houses, fields, ball parks, car washes, etc. He is often able to tell me who's house we are passing by or going to, such as "Isaac's house or Mimi's house." Everyday I bring him home from daycare, there is one particular house he thinks is Mimi's. Obviously it is not since Mimi does not live in the same town, but there must be something about that house that reminds him of Mimi's house. Isaac likes car washes so much that sometimes when we get in the car he will ask to go to a car wash. He is really fascinated by them. His Daddy and Grandad take him sometimes and he enjoys it!

Isaac has started to go to bed a little later lately. He has pushed his bedtime to about 8pm now. While getting ready for bed, he likes to do "the claw" and tickle me. It is so cute how he tries to tickle someone. He wiggles both hands, shrugs up his shoulders, and smiles real big as he says "tickle, tickle." Once he is ready for bed, and we are going through his bedtime routine he will interrupt me and request for "Isaac's cold water." Another sweet thing he does at bedtime is says "Isaac's bed," on those days when he is really tired and ready to skip the routine and just be put down to sleep.

My heart is so happy when I think of the son the Lord has blessed us with. I just cannot imagine loving a child anymore. Isaac steals my heart with one smile! He is so precious to us, and I am thankful for every moment I spend with him and every memory we make as a family!
