Isaac's 1st trip to the dentist

Isaac looking a little unsure of about what is about to happen.

Isaac getting his teeth cleaned...in the big boy chair.

Isaac recently went to the dentist for the first time (at almost 20 months of age). While in the waiting area, he seemed content at first. Then after watching many people go in and out of the door to go back to the dentist, every chance he could, he'd try to open the door, so he could sneak in the back and see what was going on. Once he went back, he without a fight, allowed me to put him up in the dental chair. The hygienist let him feel the electric toothbrush on his finger so he'd know what to expect. He was very cooperative as the dental hygienist cleaned his teeth...or at least at first. The last couple minutes of cleaning, she had to use a regular toothbrush because he started crying. Once the cleaning was over, he seemed fine. The dentist soon after checked his teeth, and Isaac was cooperative and still, as he sat in the chair. The dentist said everything looked good, and encouraged me to continue brushing his teeth at least twice a day and flossing once at night. He stated that Isaac's teeth were pretty crowded for baby teeth and to start a savings account for braces that Isaac will need in the future. Well, I guess that was coming, since Adam and I both had braces. Isaac got a little bag of goodies (toothbrush, toothpaste, etc), and his first trip to the dentist was finished. I was very proud of Isaac's big boy behavior. He was overall cooperative, and his aunt Stephanie (who is a pediatric dentist) says that it's rare 1 year-olds even sit in the dental chair. Good job little man!!!

It's amazing to have kids who are more willing to sit on the dentist's chair than be scared. Kids usually dread the sound of the drill. But with proper motivation, I guess kids will be able to go through a day at the dentist's office smoothly.

I'm glad to see a child who is not afraid to visit a dentist.
